About our Bairdi Crab.
Caught in the icy waters of the Bering Sea our Bairdi crab clusters come pre-cooked and ready to eat when thawed. Each clusters weights 1-1.5lbs. Bairdi snow crab is known through-out Alaska and among most crab lovers as the best crab available on the market. There are two species of Snow crab harvested the Bering Sea in Alaska: Chionoecetes opilio and Chionoecetes Bairdi. Opilio, which are sometimes referred to as Opies or Queen crab, are the smaller, more readily available of the two species. Bairdi, also known as Tanner crab, command a higher price due to their size and restricted quotas.
What makes our Bairdi Crab special?
Caught by our friend Chris McDowell at Yakobi Fisheries. Bairdi are typically harvested at average depths of 360 feet below sea level during the frigid winter months of January, February and March. Harvest can be challenging as crews face icy conditions and cold, stormy waters. 800 lb. traps, called pots, are set with bait and then retrieved within 36-48 hours. Boat crews use hydraulic lifts to raise the pots, which can weigh over 1,000 lbs when full.
What about the health benefits?
Bairdi snow crabs are naturally lean, low in calories and fat, but packed with protein.

Bardi Snow Crab recipe
Our bairdi snow crab is already pre-cooked and ready to eat when thawed. Many chose to serve snow crab with drawn butter or dipping sauce.
- Thaw crab legs in the refrigerator overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350° F.
- Coat bottom of an oven-safe pan with cooking oil.
- Arrange the crab legs on the bottom of a deep glass baking dish.
- Pour ½ an inch of water into the baking dish to partially submerge the crab legs.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. Poke a few holes in the tops so that some steam can escape.
- Bake thawed crab legs for 10-15 minutes then remove the baking dish from the oven and serve!
