2023 Sockeye Wrap Up & Looking Towards the Future

Sunset in BRISTOL BAY

As 2023 has come to a close, we reflect on what a remarkable year it has been, particularly during our favorite season – sockeye season. The '23 sockeye run surpassed all expectations, boasting an impressive 54.5 million fish. Across every district, the results exceeded forecasts, allowing our dedicated crew to harvest an abundance of sockeye to share with you. This exceptional run, deemed "excellent" by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG), filled us with gratitude, especially when paired with the breathtaking views we enjoyed.

The excitement persists as we look ahead to the 2024 season, guided by ADFG's forecast of a 39 million sockeye run. While this may seem a slight dip from the previous year, it remains a substantial and "average" run size, according to seasoned scientists. Recognizing that the best things often come in smaller quantities, we maintain hope that the upcoming run will surpass the forecast, just as the '23 run did.
